With This Ring…

Chapter Four

Saying goodnight to Tim, leaving his house, after basically rejecting his — hers? She’s not entirely sure how that works — ring is by far one of the hardest things she’s ever done. Lucy does want it, she wants to wear it and flaunt it, and tell the world that Tim Bradford is her husband. That he loves her and chose her.

But, the reality is, it just isn’t the right time. As beautiful as it is, and as astonishing as it is to know he’s had a ring for who knows how long, things are simply too rocky right now. Putting on a ring isn’t going to magically fix everything. Tim is still drowning in his trauma, working to be better, and she’s still scared.

Which hurts because she’s never felt that way before. She’s trusted him, implicitly, since her second day on the job. Though, deep down, she knows trusting Tim at work and trusting him with her heart are two very different things.

They still have so much work to do, to get to where they’d been. Or really, a far better place than they’d been. Because now, in the after of their separation, Lucy can see all the cracks they’d had before.

Their fears to truly communicate, glossing over their issues — both big and small.

The destruction of their once happy life had not all been at Tim’s hand. With the way they’d been going, they were bound to hit some kind of rough patch or road block.

But none of that erases her love for him. No amount of apprehension or pain, or time apart, could destroy that.

Lucy loves Tim beyond all comprehension.

Which is what drove her to forgive him, to make this life changing decision to marry him before they were really ready.

And it's that love that has her aching to be with him. That broke her heart to leave him last night and not fall asleep wrapped in the sweet, quiet safety of his arms.

They’ll get there, she knows, hopefully sooner than later. Because as much as she knows they need to take things slow and steady, all she wants is to be with Tim. In every way, for every single minute she can be.
